CONSTRUCT 6MG POTABLE WATER STORAGE TANK S-2

Location: Honolulu, HI

Triton Marine contracted with Naval Facilities Engineering Command Hawaii for  a design-build delivery of a new AWWA D110 Type 1 prestressed concrete potable water tank, including all associated piping and valve infrastructure. Additional site improvements were required to support the new tank and surrounding area, such as construction of a retaining wall, drainage upgrades, site grading, asphalt pavement, and a permeable pavement access road constructed around the full circumference of the tank.

The design phase was a coordinated effort between geotechnical, civil, and structural disciplines, with close collaboration among the Designer of Record, geotechnical and structural engineers, and various government stakeholders throughout the review process. Construction activities included demolition of the existing 6 MG steel tank and excavation to competent volcanic tuff for new foundations. Work included placement of CLSM, installation of encased piping and tank penetrations, and construction of cast-in-place foundations and structural elements supporting the prestressed concrete tank, including footings, walls, columns, and roof. Additional construction included a curved CIP retaining wall with integrated drainage features, onsite-cast vaults for valves and drainage structures, and completion of site improvements such as grading, drainage upgrades, asphalt pavement, and a permeable pavement access road around the tank perimeter

Project Tasks:

  • Demolished the existing 6 MG steel tank
  • Designed and constructed a curved retaining wall
  • Placing 500 cubic yards of CLSM
  • Installing encased piping and tank penetrations
  • Prestressed concrete tank
  • Onsite-cast precast vaults
